Few more pics before disassembling the prototype to try some experimental idea. (Thanks to the screw-only-no-glue body construction.) I’ve replaced the neck with the YSW D extension neck. I play classical solo music on bass. I use the low D for some of Bach’s songs. The low D access option is very nice to have when arranging songs.
新しいアイディアを試して見るためにプロトタイプを分解するので、その前に写真をいくつか追加。ボディの大部分は接着剤を使わずスクリューオンリーで組んであるから後から分解出来ちゃうんです。なんかその辺も本物のAR15みたい。今はYSWのD エクステンションネックを付けています。クラッシックの楽曲をベース独奏にアレンジしている私にとってはLow Dにアクセス可能というのはすごく良いですね。
Besides messing the first prototype, I am making a new bass and a guitar at the same time. The main goal this time is to define the production specs and streamline the building steps. Making this guitar is 20 times harder than making a telecaster so I need to find how to simplify the process. Also, I want to confirm I can save time if I make two or more guitars at the same time.
I’ll use an alder wood for the center core. The wood is thicker than the standard guitars.
このプロトタイプをいじくる以外に現在AR15の新しいベースとギターを造っています。目標は製品版の仕様を確定する事と、製作工程の見直し・合理化です。このギター造るのってテレキャス造るのと比べて20倍くらい大変なのでいくらなんでもなんとかしないと・・
センターブロックはplywoodじゃなくて素直にアルダーで行きます。普通のギターより少し厚い材でね。重さを稼ぐためだけど、個人的に「厚さ」が音にどう影響するのかすごく興味があります。最初のプロトはカスタムplywoodを造って時間とコストを大幅に削減しようと目論んだのだけど、実際やってみると全然ダメで、かえって時間もコストもかかったというオチでした・・
To save time, I used dado blade to “cut” the pickup cavity. The cavity floor is not clean but I don’t care as it won’t be visible. I know if I spend 10 more minutes, I can make this part flat but I refuse to do it. Making even the invisible parts nice and clean may be the good old Japanese way, but it’s not the ‘military design’ way. It’s the philosophy of this project.
時間をセーブするためにピックアップキャビティはルーターじゃなくてDado Bladeを使って加工して見ました。ほら、日本語でなんて言うのか知らないけどテーブルソーで太い溝を一気に掘るあの凶悪な刃ですよ。ただでさえ恐ろしいパワーツールに太くて重たい刃を付けるともう恐怖ですね。TCTGP工房の某ビルダーはこれで病院送りになったし・・。キャビティのフロアーがフラットじゃないけどどうせ見えない所だから気にしません。いや、ここから更にあとホンの10分くらい時間かければルーターでここを綺麗に仕上げるのは出来るのだけどそんな作業は拒否します。見えない所も綺麗に完璧に・・というのは昔の古き良き時代の日本が誇れるスピリッツなのだろうけど、「ミリタリーデザイン」のスピリッツでは無いです。これはもうこのギターの考え方というか哲学の問題なので。
